ACC2000: Error When You Paste a Field into Navigation Section (203383)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

When you add a control to a data access page or set the ControlSource property of a control on a data access page, you may receive the following error message:
Caption and record navigation section cannot contain bound fields.
The control remains in the caption or navigation section; however, the control will not contain any data in Page view.

The value that you set in the ControlSource property does not remain after you click OK to the error message.

CAUSE

You tried one of the following in a caption or navigation section of a page:

You tried to add a bound control.

-or-

You tried to set the ControlSource property of a control.

RESOLUTION

Delete the control from the caption or navigation section.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. In the Database window, click Pages under Objects.
  3. Click the New button on the Database Window toolbar.
  4. In the New Data Access Page dialog box, click Design View and select the Shippers table in the Choose the table or query where the object's data comes from box; then, click OK.
  5. Click CompanyName, and then click Add To Page.
  6. Select CompanyName. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  7. Select the navigation section. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
