This article was previously published under Q202255 SYMPTOMS
If you have Internet Explorer 4.01 installed and run the setup program for any of the Visual Studio applications, setup will force installation of Internet Explorer Service Pack 1. If you already have this service pack installed, setup will force an installation of Virtual Machine for Java.
CAUSE
A dialog box in setup states that Internet Explorer 4.01 is needed; however, what is actually required is Internet Explorer version 4.01 Service Pack 1 and a version of Virtual Machine for Java more recent than that provided in version 4.01 Service Pack 1.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
