ACC97: Error Importing or Linking to an Excel File in Access (200431)

SYMPTOMS
When you try to import or link a table in a Microsoft Excel workbook, you may receive the following error message:
External table isn't in the expected format.
CAUSE
You may experience this problem when you try to import or link a table to an Excel workbook that uses functions from the Analysis ToolPak add-in.
RESOLUTION
Open the workbook in Excel and keep it open until you import or link to the workbook. You can then close Excel without receiving the error.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Access 97.
