OL2000: Duplicate Accelerator Key in Edit Signature Dialog (199096)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q199096

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new custom signature in Microsoft Outlook, the Edit Signature dialog box assigns the same accelerator key to the Font and the Finish buttons. As a result, when you press ALT+F only the Font dialog box opens.

CAUSE

The focus is initally on the Signature box where the Font, Paragraph, Clear, and Advanced Edit buttons apply. Until you switch to the Edit Signature form, ALT+F only applies to the Font command. Once you switch to the Edit Signature form, the ALT+F applies to the Finish command.

RESOLUTION

If your default e-mail format is "Microsoft Outlook Rich Text" or "Plain Text," press the TAB key or SHIFT+TAB to switch from the Signature box and to the form. Once the focus is out of the Signature box, press the ALT+f key combination to apply the Finish command.

If your default e-mail format is set to HTML you can change the focus in this dialog box by pressing SHIFT+TAB.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
