SUMMARY

In Outlook 98, the Signing and Encryption Certificates are written in the registry. If you need to use your advanced security on another computer, you need to transfer your security information into the registry on that computer using an .epf file.

Perform the following steps to transfer the information:
  1. Log on to the client on the original computer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, then click the Security tab.
  3. Click the Import/Export Digital ID button.
  4. Click the Export Your Exchange or S/MIME Security Information option.
  5. Click the Select button to select your Digital ID.
  6. From the list of certificates, select your certificate, and click OK.
  7. Click the Browse button, and type a name for your .epf file in the File Name Box. Make sure to select Exchange Security (*.epf) in the Files of type box.
  8. Place a floppy disk in your A: drive, and click Open.
  9. Type a password in the Password box, and click OK to initiate the export.
  10. Log on to the client on the new computer.
  11. On the Tools menu, click Options, then click the Security tab.
  12. Click the Import/Export Digital ID button.
  13. Click Import existing Exchange or S/MIME Security Information.
  14. Click the Browse button, and select the .epf file from step 7 above. Click Open.
  15. Type the password from step 9 above in the Password box.
  16. Type a Keyset name (typically your mailbox name).
  17. Set your security level, and click OK.
  18. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
You are now ready to use advanced security on this computer.

NOTE: You must select your own certificate in step 6 above. When you attempt to send secured mail, the client checks the e-mail address on the certificates and compare it to the e-mail address of your mailbox, and if they do not match, you will get an error.
