The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q198692

SUMMARY

During the installation of Windows 2000, if you have selected Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), you are not prompted to enter your IP address. Windows 2000 uses Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) without a prompt to choose otherwise by default. To use a static IP address, you must change the configuration using the Make New Connection and Local Area Connection tools in Control Panel.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior was designed to make configuration easier for the majority of users who do not use a static IP address. If you do need to use a static IP address, use the tools listed above to change your configuration.
