TC1000: Cannot Learn Codes from a Working DBS Remote Control (197181)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Take Control Editor 1.0

This article was previously published under Q197181

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the learning feature of the Take Control System Controller (TC1000), the TC1000 may not be able to learn the codes from a working Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) remote control.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the working DBS remote control uses Ultra High Frequency (UHF) radio signals to transmit codes to the device.

MORE INFORMATION

Infrared remote controls use infrared light to transmit codes and must be pointed directly at the device to operate.

DBS systems that use infrared remote controls include:

  • RCA
  • GE
  • Sony
  • Panasonic
  • Hitachi
UHF remote controls use radio signals to transmit codes and do not have to be pointed directly at the device to operate. UHF remote controls emit a radio signal that can penetrate walls and floors.

DBS systems that use UHF remote controls include:

  • Sony
  • Uniden
These models of Dish Network Satellite receivers use UHF/IR universal remote controls:
  • Echostar 4000 & 5000 series
  • JVC DSR100HM
