This example links to a Contact.

To link a Word document to an Outlook Contact, follow these steps:

1. Click to select the notes area of an open Contact.
2. On the Insert menu, click Object.
3. Click to select "Create from File," and enter the name of the Word document you want to create a linked object from, or click Browse to select from a list.
4. Click to select the Link check box, and click OK.
   
   NOTE: An embedded object is created if you don't click to select the Link check box. An embedded object becomes a part of the destination. If you double-click an embedded object, it opens in the program in which it was created. Any changes you make to the embedded object are reflected in the destination item.
5. If you want to display the document as an icon, click to select "Display as icon."
   
   NOTE: If you create a linked object from a Word document to an Outlook e-mail message and you want others to be able to edit the linked object, the recipients of the message must have access to the network share the document is stored on, your network must support Uniform Naming Convention (UNC) addresses, and you must type the UNC address for the network share that has the file in the File box. For example, type \\Data\Documents\File.doc

NOTE: The linked object will update automatically only if Word is running. To manually update the object, right-click the linked item in the Contact and click Properties. On the Link tab, click Update Now, and then click Close.
