PRJ: Task Outline Numbers Incorrect After Sorting (196148)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you sort a project, the task outline numbers may not update to reflect the correct new outline numbers.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you sort a project in a task view and the Permanently Renumber Tasks option is selected (on the Project menu, point at Sort and then click Sort By).

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Select task 1.
  2. On the Project menu, point to Outline, and then click Indent.
The outline numbers update to display the correct outline numbering sequence.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
