Plus! 98 Err Msg: Cannot Find the File Oasaver.hlp... (196100)

SYMPTOMS

When you configure the Organic Art screen saver included with Microsoft Plus! 98, if you click the context-sensitive Help (?) button in the Organic Properties dialog box, and then click any item in the dialog box, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot find the file Oasaver.hlp. Do you want to try to find the file yourself?
When you click No, you receive the following error message:
Cannot find the file Oasaver.hlp. Check to see if the file exists on your disk. If it doesn't, you will need to reinstall it.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions are true:
  • You install the Organic Art screen saver without also installing Desktop Themes.
  • You remove Desktop Themes after you install Plus! 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods.

Extract the Oasaver.hlp File

To extract the Oasaver.hlp file from the Plus! 98 CD-ROM, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM, press and hold down the SHIFT key to prevent Plus! 98 from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type sfc, and then click OK.
  4. Click "Extract one file from installation disk."
  5. In the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" box, type oasaver.hlp, and then click Start.
  6. In the Restore From box, type the following line

    <cdrom>:\Plus98

    where <cdrom> is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  7. In the Save File In box, type the following line

    <drive>:\<windows>\help

    where <drive> is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Microsoft Windows is installed.
  8. Click OK.
  9. When you are notified that the file has been successfully extracted, click OK.
  10. Click Close.

Install Plus! 98 Desktop Themes

To install the Plus! 98 desktop themes, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM, press and hold down the SHIFT key to prevent Plus! 98 from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Plus! 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. Click Add/Remove, and then click Next.
  6. To install all of the desktop themes, click the Desktop Themes check box to select it. To install a specific theme or set of themes, follow these steps:

    1. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Desktop Themes to expand the branch.
    2. Click to select the check box for each desktop theme you want to install.
  7. Click Next, click Next, and then click Finish.
  8. In the Theme box, click the desktop them you want, and then click OK.
  9. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.

MORE INFORMATION

The context-sensitive Help information for the Organic Art screen saver is stored in the Oasaver.hlp file. Plus! 98 only installs the Oasaver.hlp file when you install Plus! 98 Desktop Themes.
