Unable to connect to the server: (Account: 'Symantec Fax Starter Edition', SMTP Server: '127.0.0.1', Error Number: 0x800ccc0e').

CAUSE

The Fax Mail Server and modem controller are not loaded or not configured correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

Run the Setup Wizard

  1. On the Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type OLFSETUP.EXE, and then click Find Now.
  3. When the file name is displayed in the lower pane of the dialog box, double-click it to start the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Setup Wizard.
  4. Complete the Setup Wizard.

Start the Fax Mail Server and Modem Controller

After the Setup Wizard finishes, manually start the Fax Mail Server and modem controller. To do this:
  1. On the Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type WFXMSRVR.EXE, and then click Find Now.
  3. When the file name appears in the lower pane of the dialog box, double-click it to start the fax server.

NOTE: By default, the files are located in the folder:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033

If you are still receiving the error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section of this article after running these steps, remove, and then reinstall the Symantec Fax Starter Edition. After the Setup Wizard finishes, manually start the Fax Mail Server and modem controller.
