The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q195532 SYMPTOMS
If you have installed Visual J++ 6.0 Server-Side Trial Edition, then when
you try to install Visual J++ 6.0 Professional (VJ6Pro), you may get an
error telling you that you need to uninstall the Server-Side Trial Edition.
The exact text of the error message follows:
The Installation Wizard has detected another edition of Microsoft Visual
J++ 6.0 on your system. Please uninstall Visual J++ 6.0 from the
Add/Remove Programs applet in your Control Panel before continuing.
After using Add/Remove programs on the Control Panel to uninstall the
Server-Side Trial Edition, you will still get the same error on trying to
install VJ6Pro.
RESOLUTION
You will need to use Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel to remove
Remote Machine Debugging in order for the VJ6Pro installation to work.
If VJ6Pro still displays the error when installing, click Yes in the dialog
box that asks you whether you are sure you want to continue. This should
force VJ6Pro to install. Another dialog box will appear after the first one
described above. If you choose to continue, you will see the following:
Installing this combination of products may break your existing version
of one of more Visual Studio 6.0 products.
You may continue at this dialog box. The installation of VJ6Pro over Visual
J++ 6.0 Server-Side Trial Edition has not been shown to break Visual Studio
under any known circumstances.
STATUS
