The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q195524

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, a task marked as a milestone or a task with zero duration may have an incorrect finish date.

NOTE: This behavior may also affect Summary tasks' finish dates and the scheduling of successors of that task.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when you do the following:

  • In the Gantt Chart, you click the blank region to the left of a milestone, and drag left in order to create a task on the same row as the milestone.
This behavior occurs with the following types of tasks:

  • Tasks with a duration of 0 (zero) days.
  • Tasks marked as a milestone.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the appropriate method for your situation.

Method 1: If the duration of the milestone is 0 days, increase the duration of the milestone to 1d. Then, reedit the milestone's duration back to 0d.

Method 2: If the duration of the milestone is greater than 0 days, reduce the duration to the correct value.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
