PRJ98: Project Opened Using ODBC Not Opened Read-Only (195342)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q195342 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you click to select the Read Only check box
in the File Open dialog box, and then click ODBC and open a project, the
project may not open as read-only.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when read-write permissions are assigned within a
database.
If you have read and write permissions within a database, the project will
open as read-write.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
- In the database, edit the Project_ReadWrite field in the
Project_Information Table to have a value of 1.
- In the database that stores the project, assign yourself
SELECT permission. In Microsoft Access 97, this corresponds
to having your User and Group Permissions set to
Read Design and Read Data only.
NOTE: Although these workarounds will cause the project to open as read-only, you will not have a choice of how to open a project from within
Microsoft Project 98.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
For more information about working with projects in a database, please
refer to the Database.wri file that ships with Microsoft Project 98.
