PRJ98: Hyperlink Does Not Appear Correctly in the Notes Field (194971)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q194971

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you view a Notes field that contains a hyperlink, only a portion of that hyperlink may appear to be formatted as a hyperlink. In addition, clicking the hyperlink may not open the correct location.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if both the following conditions are true:

  • There is a space in the hyperlink address.

    -and-

  • You are viewing the Notes field in a form, such as the Notes tab of the Task Information dialog box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use any of the following methods.

Use Insert Hyperlink

Instead of using the Notes field, use the Insert Hyperlink command to insert a hyperlink for a task. To insert a hyperlink, follow these steps:

  1. On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
  2. In the Link To File Or URL box, type the path to the appropriate location and click OK.

View the Notes Field Outside of a Form View

If you view the Notes field outside of a form view, the hyperlink will work correctly. For example, you can insert the Notes column in the Gantt View. To do this, click Column on the Insert menu; click Notes in the Field Name list, and click Best Fit.

Reformat Text to Look Like a Hyperlink

NOTE: Formatting the text to match that of a hyperlink does not allow you to open the hyperlink from a form view such as the Task Information dialog box. It only makes the formatting consistent.

To format text to appear as a hyperlink, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text that you want to format.
  2. Click the Font button (the button with the "A" on it).
  3. Select the options you want to change. To match a hyperlink's format, change Color to Blue and click to select the Underline check box.
  4. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
