SYMPTOMS

When you connect to the Internet through a proxy server, you may experience unreliable connections and random error messages.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the proxy server is not Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP) 1.1 compliant.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact your network administrator and request that the proxy server be upgraded to an HTTP 1.1-compliant server.

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Internet.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under HTTP 1.1 Settings, click the "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" check box to clear it, and then click OK.
