OFF98: "No Installation Was Necessary" Running Office 98 Update (194510)

When you run the Office 98 Update for Mac OS 8.5, the update runs and then
the following message appears:
No installation was necessary. The files to be installed are
already on your disk, or are not needed for your hardware setup.
When you click Quit your Office 98 program files are not updated.
CAUSE
This problem will occur if you have renamed the following Office 98 program
files:
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Powerpoint
Microsoft Office 98
RESOLUTION
To allow your Office 98 program files to be updated, do the following to
correct the program file names:
- Rename your each of your Office 98 program files to the names
listed above.
- Start any one of the Office 98 programs to re-register them with the
operating system.
- Run the Office 98 Update for Mac OS 8.5 installation program.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
