XL98: Virus Search Add-in Cannot Open Password Protected Files (193666)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Virus Search add-in for Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, some of your files are not scanned for the Laroux macro virus, and the Comment column in the search log may contain the following message:
Password protected

CAUSE

This comment appears in the search log for files to which you have applied a password using the Password To Open or Password To Modify boxes in the Save Options dialog box. The Virus Search add-in cannot scan password protected files for the Laroux macro virus.

This behavior is by design of the Virus Search add-in for Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, remove the password protection from the affected files before you scan your Excel files for the Laroux virus. After scanning the files, you can reapply the password protection.
