XL98: Preferences Dialog Box Does Not Appear (193075)

SYMPTOMS

The following problems may occur:
  • When you click Preferences on the Tools menu, the dialog box does not appear. -or-

  • When you insert a module sheet, you may receive the following error message:
    VBA English/Standard (VBAEN.OLB) object library not found

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when there is a corrupted global setting in the Preferences dialog box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Microsoft Excel.
  2. Remove the following files located in the System Folder:Preferences folder on the hard disk:

    VBA Preferences
    Excel Settings (8)
    PPC Registration Database

  3. Restart Microsoft Excel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
