Err Msg: Error Receiving Fax from <xxx-xxx-xxxx> (192465)

SYMPTOMS

When you view message headers using Microsoft Windows Messaging in Windows 98, you may see the following fax header:
Error receiving fax from <xxx-xxx-xxxx>


This header may be present even if no errors occurred during transmission. When this occurs, you may be unable to open the fax because no program is associated with the Microsoft Fax (.awd) file type.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for non-editable faxes if Imaging for Windows is not installed. Imaging for Windows is used to render non-editable faxes in Windows 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install Imaging for Windows by following these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double- click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. On the Windows Setup tab, click Accessories (the word, not the check box), and then click Details.
  3. Click the Imaging check box to select it, and then click OK.
  4. Click OK.
