Cannot Select "(None)" for Screen Saver (192264)

SYMPTOMS

When you click (None) in the Screen Saver box in Display properties, a screen saver may be displayed in the preview box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if there is a screen saver (.scr) file whose name begins with one of the following characters:

   % # & $ ! (
				

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and click Files Or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type "*.scr" (without quotation marks).
  3. In the Look In box, click the drive on which Windows is installed, and then click Find Now.
  4. In the list of found files, locate any .scr file whose name begins with any of the characters listed earlier in this article. Right-click the file, click Rename, press the RIGHT ARROW key, press the HOME key, press the DELETE key, and then press ENTER.
  5. Repeat step 4 for any other .scr files whose name begins with any of the characters listed earlier in this article.
