The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q191489 SYMPTOMS
When you run Windows 98 Setup from within Windows 98, you may receive the
following message or one similar to it:
Hard Disk is Low on Disk Space
You are running out of disk space on drive C.
To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click
Disk Cleanup.
Note that you may receive this message even if you have sufficient free
space on your hard disk.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when Setup is copying files to your computer. If
this causes the free disk space on your computer to reach the low disk
space notification threshold associated with the Disk Cleanup utility,
this message is generated.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, click Cancel in the "Hard Disk is Low on
Disk Space" dialog box, or disable Disk Cleanup before running Setup.
To disable Disk Cleanup before running Setup, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
- Click the drive where Windows is installed, and then click OK.
- Click the Settings tab, click the "If this drive runs low on disk
space, automatically run Disk Cleanup" check box to clear it, and then
click OK.
- When you receive the "Are you sure you want to delete files" prompt,
you can click Yes or No. If you click Yes, Disk Cleanup deletes files
as specified on the Disk Cleanup tab. If you click No, the files are
not deleted. Either choice quits Disk Cleanup.
