When you start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
This computer's display is currently running in 16 color mode.
For proper operation 256 color mode is required. Run the Windows Control
Panel, select Display, and on the Settings tab, change the Color Palette
value to 256 colors.
CAUSE
This issue occurs if the Microsoft Windows color depth setting is set to only 16 colors.
RESOLUTION
To start the program successfully, set the Windows color depth setting to at least 256 colors. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Color Palette or Colors box, click 256 Colors, and then click OK.
- If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.
