Fatal Error During Installation of Small Business Server (191218)

SYMPTOMS

Installing Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) from the three Setup boot floppy disks may result in the following error message:
Fatal Error

An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing.

The text of the Software License Agreement for Windows NT has been tampered with.

Press OK to view the Setup log file.

CAUSE

SBS installs using Microsoft Windows NT unattended installation. Windows NT unattended Setup requires the installation source files to always be available. If the SBS CD-ROM has been removed from the CD-ROM drive, this error may occur during installation.

RESOLUTION

Make sure the SBS CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive and then restart the computer. Setup initializes and should continue past this error message. Do not remove the SBS CD-ROM until you are prompted to do so by the Setup program.

If you are still having problems, re-create the Setup disks and install again.
