INFO: Updating Data in Sources Other Than Databases (191165)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Transaction Server 1.0
- Microsoft Transaction Server 2.0
This article was previously published under Q191165 SUMMARY
Packages can include components that update data in sources other than
databases. Sources of data for package components are known as Resource
Managers. Although a broad range of database products can serve as Resource
Managers, at this time there is no capability for non-database products
(such as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet) to serve as Resource Managers. This
does not prevent you from building components that use non-database sources
as long as you are aware that transaction coordination does not occur with
these components. This allows you to exploit the DCOM facility of
Transaction Server in a non-transactional environment.
