Organic Art Screen Saver Hangs Computer with Multiple Monitors (190787)

SYMPTOMS

When you use one of the Organic Art screen savers included in Plus! 98 on a computer configured to use multiple monitors, the computer may stop responding (hang). You may also see two red horizontal lines on the secondary display.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your secondary display adapter is based on the Trident 9680 chipset.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

  • Install a different display adapter to use as your secondary display adapter.
  • Contact your hardware manufacturer to inquire about obtaining an updated video driver for your display adapter that is compatible with the Organic Art screen saver. You can also download generic Trident video drivers from the following Trident Web site:

    http://www.trid.com

  • Edit the registry to configure your screen saver to run on only one monitor.

    To do this, add a new DWORD value named "DisableMultiMon" (without quotation marks) with value data of "1" (without quotation marks) to the following registry key: 
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Computer Artworks\Organic Art\Plus
