PRB: Visual J++ 6.0 Not Installed by Visual Studio Setup (190575)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visual Studio, Professional Edition 6.0
- Microsoft Visual J++ 6.0
This article was previously published under Q190575 SYMPTOMS
Visual J++ is not installed by the Visual Studio setup, even though Visual
J++ is included in Visual Studio.
RESOLUTION
Install Visual J++ from the separate setup on the Visual J++ CD.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
Visual J++ was not at ship quality at the time required for inclusion in
Visual Studio. Microsoft felt that an officially-released product should
not install beta software, so Visual J++ was pulled from the Visual Studio
setup. Also, Microsoft wanted to make it easy to update to the final Visual
J++ 6.0. As a result, Microsoft could not tie the Visual Studio setup to
the version of Visual J++ that was available.
The version that originally shipped in Visual Studio version 6.0 was
Technology Preview 2. The release version of Visual J++ 6.0 currently ships
with Visual Studio 6.0. However, the installation is still not integrated
with Visual Studio setup. If your Visual Studio 6.0 program contains a pre-
release version of Visual J++, then you can use the product fulfillment
coupon that is included inside the box to obtain the released version of
Visual J++ 6.0.
