WD97: Cannot Find Thesaurus Error After Installing Works 4.5a (189894)

SYMPTOMS

If you install Works 4.5a after installing Microsoft Word 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2), the Word 97 SR-2 thesaurus is replaced by the Works 4.5a thesaurus. The Works 4.5a thesaurus does not function properly and the following will occur:

  • In Works 4.5a, when you try to use the thesaurus, you will receive the following error message:
    Cannot find the Thesaurus files. Run Works Setup again.
    -or-
  • In Word 97 SR-2, when you try to use the thesaurus, one of the following occurs:

    • Word tries to use the United Kingdom thesaurus even though you are set up for US English; hence you receive the following error message:
      Word cannot find the thesaurus file msth_en.lex for English (United States)".
      -or-

    • Nothing happens when you try to use the thesaurus.

RESOLUTION

Reinstall Word 97 SR-2 to replace the Works 4.5 thesaurus with the Word 97 SR-2 thesaurus.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
