SYMPTOMS

When you move a folder to a new location on a Handheld PC (H/PC), you may not be able to open the folder, or the folder may appear to be empty.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the total length of the path to the folder on the H/PC is greater than 256 characters.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, rename the folders that contain the folder you moved. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Press and hold down the ALT key, tap the folder you want to rename, and then tap Rename.
  2. Type a shorter name for the folder, and then press ENTER.
  3. If the issue continues to occur, repeat steps 1-2 for each folder in which the folder you moved is contained until the issue is resolved.

MORE INFORMATION

If the total length of the path to a folder exceeds 256 characters on an H/PC running Windows CE 1.0, you receive a warning message.
