The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Clip Gallery 3.0

This article was previously published under Q189675

SUMMARY

When you attempt to insert clip art from the Microsoft Publisher 97 CD, Microsoft Clip Gallery does not recognize the compact disc because Clip Gallery is searching for the Microsoft Publisher CD, not the Microsoft Publisher 97 CD.

Microsoft is making available a patch named Namefix.exe. If you install this patch, Clip Gallery requests the Microsoft Publisher 97 CD.

NOTE: You should only use this patch if Microsoft Publisher 97 is currently installed or was previously installed on your computer.

INTRODUCTION

The self-extracting executable file called Namefix.exe contains the following files:

  • Readme.txt
  • Namefix.reg
The Namefix.reg file is a registry file for Microsoft Publisher 97.

This file will fix an error that can occur if clip art from Microsoft Publisher 97 has been installed on a computer.

When a user attempts to insert clip art that shipped on the Microsoft Publisher 97 CD, Microsoft Clip Gallery asks for the Microsoft Publisher CD instead of the "Microsoft Publisher 97 CD. Because the version number of the needed CD is not specified, a user who owns different versions of Publisher may not know which CD to insert. After this fix is installed, the Clip Gallery will ask for the full Microsoft Publisher CD name and version when inserting clip art.

IMPORTANT: This fix should only be installed if Microsoft Publisher 97 is currently installed or was previously installed.

IMPORTANT: If you are installing this fix on Windows NT, you must have write access to the Local Machine tree of the registry.
