"Windows Cannot Find Program.exe" Error Accessing Web Page (189583)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
This article was previously published under Q189583 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to view an Internet or intranet Web page, you may receive
the following error message:
Program not found, Windows cannot find Program.exe.
This program is needed for opening files of type 'URL:HyperText
Transfer Protocol'.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you are using the Network TeleSystems TCP Pro
TCP/IP network protocol. This protocol does not cause the Internet
Connection wizard to start automatically the first time you try to access
a Web page. One of the Internet Connection wizard's functions is to
associate documents written in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) with your
Web browser.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, run the Internet Connection wizard manually. To do
so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type inetwiz
in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this behavior is not caused by a problem
in Windows 98, but may be caused by design changes in Windows 98. For
more information about resolving this issue, contact the program's
manufacturer.
