Virtual Globe 98 Prompts You to Disconnect from the Internet (189523)

SYMPTOMS

When you link to a Web page from Encarta Virtual Globe 98, you may be prompted to disconnect from the Internet when you quit Microsoft Internet Explorer. This symptom can occur even if you are not currently connected to the Internet.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Internet Explorer is configured to use a modem to automatically connect to the Internet.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Internet.
  3. On the Connection tab, click the "Connect to the Internet as needed" check box to clear it.
  4. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
NOTE: When you complete these steps, Internet Explorer cannot use your modem to automatically connect to the Internet. To manually connect to the Internet, follow these steps:
  1. Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
  2. Double-click Dial-Up Networking.
  3. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking connection for your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
