The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q189513

SYMPTOMS

After running the Microsoft Office 98 Updater, the version of Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition may be unchanged.

CAUSE

If you have renamed the Microsoft PowerPoint icon in the Microsoft Office 98 folder to something other than "Microsoft PowerPoint," the Microsoft Office 98 Updater may not update Microsoft PowerPoint.

The Microsoft Office 98 Updater searches for a file called Microsoft Powerpoint. If it is found on your hard disk drive, the update will copy a new version of the file to your hard disk drive.

RESOLUTION

To update Microsoft PowerPoint using the Microsoft Office 98 Updater, follow these steps:

  1. Rename the Microsoft PowerPoint icon in the Microsoft Office 98 folder on your hard disk drive to "Microsoft PowerPoint," without quotation marks.
  2. Run the Microsoft Office 98 Updater.
To verify that Microsoft PowerPoint is updated, check the version of the icon in the Microsoft Office 98 folder on your hard disk drive according to the following table.
   File Old Version New Version
   ---------------------------------------------------

   Microsoft PowerPoint 8.0 (4927) 8.0 (5508)
