Plus! 98: Files on Removable Drive Are Not Deleted (189419)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q189419 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Non-Critical File Cleaner utility included in Plus! 98
to delete files from a floppy disk or a removable drive such as an Iomega
Jazz drive, you may not delete the files even though the files no longer
appear in the Non-Critical File Cleaner window.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the floppy disk or removable drive is write
protected.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, remove write protection from the floppy disk or
removable drive.
If you are using a floppy disk, move the write-protect tab to cover the
write-protect notch on the floppy disk. If you are using a removable drive
such as an Iomega Jazz drive, consult the printed documentation provided
with the drive or contact your hardware manufacturer for instructions on
how to remove write protection from the removable drive.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98,
version 1.0.
MORE INFORMATION
The Non-Critical File Cleaner utility included in Plus! 98 uses a custom
shell provided by CyberMedia to display file status. This shell is unable
to check if the files you deleted are still present on the floppy disk or
removable drive and simply assumes that the file deletion was successful.
