This article was previously published under Q189387

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to view the contents of a Windows 98 cabinet file by double-clicking it, the cabinet file may appear to be empty.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are attempting to view the contents of the Win98_24.cab or Win98_25.cab cabinet file. These files contain the Wavetop.cab cabinet file. The Wavetop.cab cabinet file is located in the Win98_23.cab, Win98_24.cab and Win98_25.cab cabinet files. The header information for the Wavetop.cab cabinet file is stored only in the Win98_23.cab cabinet file. Therefore, no files are displayed when you attempt to view the contents of the Win98_24.cab or Win98_25.cab cabinet file.

MORE INFORMATION

If you extract the Wavetop.cab cabinet file from the Win98_23.cab cabinet file, the remainder of the Wavetop.cab cabinet file is extracted from the Win98_24.cab and Win98_25.cab cabinet files automatically.
