Err Msg: There Are No Viewers Registered for This Type of File (189301)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Quick View command in the Non-Critical File Cleaner utility included in Microsoft Plus! 98, you may receive the following error message:
There are no viewers registered for this type of file. Would you like to try the default viewers?
If you click Yes, you receive the following error message:
There is no viewer capable of viewing <filetype> files.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have not installed the Quick View utility included in Microsoft Windows 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the Quick View utility. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM to prevent the Windows 98 CD-ROM from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. On the Windows Setup tab, click Accessories, and then click Details.
  5. Click the Quick View check box to select it, and then click OK.
  6. Click OK, and then close Control Panel.
