PRJ98: Project Names on the Window Menu Are Truncated (189232)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q189232

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you view the list of open projects on the Window menu, some project names may be truncated.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if either of the following conditions are true:

  1. You resize a project's window so that the project name is truncated on the window's title bar.

    -or-

  2. You saved the project when the project's name was truncated on the window's title bar, and another project is now active.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. On the Window menu, click Arrange All.
  2. Resize each open window such that the project name is not truncated.
  3. Resave projects as necessary to save a window's new size.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Because the Window menu takes its list of open projects from the open windows' title bars, truncated project names on the Window menu match truncated project names in the resized windows.

Likewise, when you save a project with a resized window, the window size is saved. Even if you later resize the project, the name in the Window menu may still appear truncated if another project is active. This problem occurs because the window properties of a non-active project return to the size settings that were last saved.
