SBS Registration Wizard Requires Business Fax (189229)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Registration wizard in Small Business Server, a Business Fax number is required to proceed.

CAUSE

This problem will occur if you select to use the standard installation and allow Fax Services to remain selected by default.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  • You can enter a non-existent number, if you do not have a fax, or you can use your business phone.

    -or-
  • Select Custom Installation, which will allow you to deselect Fax Services before beginning the installation of Small Business Server. If you use this method, you will not be prompted for a business fax number to proceed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Edition. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
