SYMPTOMS

When you configure McAfee VirusShield to load during Microsoft Windows startup, you may receive the following error message:
Error: cannot create events
If you click OK, Windows starts but VirusShield is not loaded.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Kernel32.dll file is not located in the Windows\System folder on your hard disk.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, move the Kernel32.dll file to the Windows\System folder. For information about how to move a file in Windows, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type moving files, and then click Display. Follow the instructions in Windows Help.
