Plus! 98: Cannot Use Windows 98 High Color Desktop Theme (189169)

SYMPTOMS

When you reinstall Microsoft Windows 98 after you install Plus! 98, you may not be able to use the Windows 98 High Color desktop theme.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reinstall the Windows 98 (High Color) desktop theme in Plus! 98. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the Plus! 98 CD-ROM to prevent the Plus! 98 CD-ROM from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Click Microsoft Plus! 98, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Desktop Themes to expand the branch.
  7. Click the Windows 98 (High Color) check box to clear it, and then click Next.
  8. Click Next, click Finish, and then click OK.
  9. Repeat steps 3-8, except in step 6 click the Windows 98 (High Color) check box to select it.
  10. Close Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98, version 1.0.
