SUMMARY

Universal Serial Bus (USB) provides a bidirectional, isochronous, and dynamically attachable serial interface for adding peripheral devices such as game controllers, serial and parallel ports, and scanners on a single bus. Microsoft provides support for USB using the Microsoft Win32 Driver Model (WDM). Win 95 OSR 2.5 CD comes with an optionally preinstallable USB support update in the \OTHER\UPDATES\USB directory.

There are two methods of preinstalling the USB update. This article explains how to preinstall the USB supplement from the Non-Restorative Audit Mode.

MORE INFORMATION

To enable USB from Non-Restorative Audit Mode, do the following:

  1. Start Windows Explorer.
  2. Click the CD drive letter to display the contents of the CD-ROM.
  3. Go to the Other\Updates\USB folder.
  4. Double-click USBSupp.exe.
  5. Restart your computer when USBSupp.exe finishes.
  6. Go to the Other\Updates\USB folder on the OSR 2.5 CD.
  7. Double USBUPD2.exe.
  8. Restart your computer when USBUPD2.exe finishes.

Important Notes

  • Both of these executables need to be run in the order specified in the previous steps.
  • You must restart your computer after you run each application (see steps 5 and 8).
  • The file CD:\Other\Updates\USB\USB.txt contains detailed installation instructions for the USB update.
