This article describes how to transform flat or two-dimensional (2-D) shapes into photorealistic three-dimensional (3-D) graphics by using the 3-D effects that are new to PowerPoint 98. You can add 3-D effects to lines, AutoShapes, and freeform objects. You can change the depth of the object and its color, angle, direction of lighting, and surface reflection.

To transform 2-D shapes into 3-D shapes, follow these steps:
  1. Create a line, AutoShape, or freeform object.
  2. On the Drawing toolbar, click the 3-D button. The 3-D Effects palette appears.
  3. Click the icon that represents the effect you want to apply. If you want to have more control over the 3-D effect, click 3-D Settings to show the 3-D Settings toolbar.
To add the same 3-D effect to several objects at one time, group the objects before you add the effect. You can also use the Format Painter tool to apply the 3-D effect from one object to another.

For more information about 3-D effects, click the Office Assistant, type How can I add 3-D effects, click Search, and then click to view "Ways to enhance objects."
