SYMPTOMS

When you use the Add New Hardware tool in Control Panel, your computer may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This issue may be caused by the incorrect interpretation of data stored in the computer's Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). On certain motherboards, Windows 98 may not be able to successfully complete the Plug and Play detection process.

RESOLUTION

You may be able to resolve this issue by upgrading the computer's BIOS. For information about upgrading the BIOS, please contact the manufacturer of your motherboard.
