This article was previously published under Q186306 Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.
SYMPTOMS
When you insert a Package object and select Display As Icon in a form
opened in Form view, you may receive the following error message:
This OLE object was created in an earlier version of OLE so it
can't be displayed as an icon.
RESOLUTION
There are two workarounds to resolve this behavior:
- You can specify the object type instead of using Packager.
-or-
- You can click to clear the Display As Icon option when inserting the
Package object.
Specifying the Object Type
When you insert the OLE object, select the appropriate format; for example,
for a Word document select Microsoft Word Document, for an Excel worksheet,
select Microsoft Excel Worksheet.
Clearing the Display As Icon Option
If you must use Packager to insert the object, make sure Display As Icon is
not selected when you create the object. This will also prevent the error
message from being displayed, but the item will appear as an icon in the
OLE Object.
