SUMMARY

This article describes how to copy Word 2001 AutoCorrect entries or Word 98 AutoCorrect entries from one computer to another.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Word AutoCorrect entries are stored in the AutoCorrect List file "MS Office ACL(8)" for Word 98, and "MS Office ACL (9)" for Word 2001.

NOTE: When you use this procedure, the existing AutoCorrect List on the Destination computer will be replaced with the AutoCorrect List from the Source computer. In other words, the existing AutoCorrect List on the Destination computer will be lost.

To copy your AutoCorrect List (ACL) from one computer to a different computer, use the following steps:

  1. To copy the AutoCorrect list from the source computer, follow these steps:
    1. Insert a disk into your floppy drive. A disk icon should appear on your Macintosh desktop.
    2. Find the following folder on your Macintosh hard drive:

      Macintosh HD:System Folder:Preferences

    3. Hold down the OPTION key and drag the "MS Office ACL (#)" file to the floppy disk icon on your Macintosh desktop (where # is either 8 or 9, depending on the version of Word that is installed).
    4. After the file is copied to the disk, drag the floppy disk icon to the trash to eject the disk.
  2. To replace the AutoCorrect List on the destination computer, follow these steps:
    1. Insert the disk into your floppy drive. A disk icon should appear on your Macintosh desktop.
    2. Double-click the disk icon on your Macintosh desktop.
    3. Hold the OPTION key and drag the "MS Office ACL (#)" file to the following folder on your Macintosh hard drive:

      Macintosh HD:System Folder:Preferences

    4. When the following message appears, click OK:

An older item named "MS Office ACL (#)" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?

When you start Word, the AutoCorrect List from the other computer will be available.

NOTE: AutoCorrect entries are stored in three locations: the ACL file, the Normal template, and Word Settings(8) file. See the following table.
