- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q186199 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you send a Team Update workgroup message to
notify a resource that he or she has been removed from a task, you may
receive the following error message:
You cannot send task updates.
The project doesn't contain any tasks that need to be updated.
NOTE: On the Tools menu, point to Workgroup, and then click TeamUpdate to send a team update message.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when a task assignment is assigned to a new resource
by dragging the assignment from one resource to a second resource in the
Resource Assignment view.
WORKAROUND
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service
Release 1 (SR-1).
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.
Method 1: Manually Notify the Resource
When you remove a resource from a task by dragging the assignment from one
resource to another, manually notify the resource of the change.
Method 2: Use the Assign Resource Dialog Box
Use a different method of reassigning the assignment to a new resource.
For example, use the Assign Resource dialog box to replace a resource. To
do this, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, point to Resources, and then click
Assign Resources.
- Click to select the resource you want to replace, and then click
Replace.
- Click to select a different resource, and then click
OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service
Release 1 (SR-1).
