The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q186059 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to add exception text in the AutoCorrect Exception dialog
box of the AutoCorrect dialog box, the Add button is disabled.
CAUSE
The Add button of the AutoCorrect Exception dialog box will be disabled if
you type two or more words separated by spaces.
STATUS
This is by design in Microsoft Office 98 programs.
MORE INFORMATION
With AutoCorrect, you can choose to automatically capitalize the first
letter of the first word in each sentence. For example, if you type "this
is a test.", AutoCorrect changes this to "This is a test." so that the
first letter of the sentence is capitalized.
Also with AutoCorrect, you can choose to automatically change two
consecutive uppercase letters in a word, so that the second uppercase
letter becomes a lowercase letter. For example, if you type "HEllo",
AutoCorrect changes this to "Hello" automatically.
You can create exceptions to prevent automatic capitalization of any word
typed after a specific abbreviation or to prevent automatic case correction
of a word that contains a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters.
However, each exception that you add must be a single word; an individual
exception cannot be more than one word.
