SYMPTOMS

If you create a shortcut to your default printer on the desktop, install another printer, set it to be the default printer and then create a shortcut to it on the desktop, both shortcuts have the default printer check mark.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, view the printers folder to determine the actual default printer. To do so, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 98.
