When you connect to a secure Web site (a site whose address starts with https://) that contains both secure
and non-secure items, you may receive the following error message:
This page contains both secure and non-secure items. Do you want to download the non-secure items?
CAUSE
If a secure Web page uses frames and one or more of the frames does not load, either because you cancel the load or because the load request does not work, Internet Explorer generates the preceding error message.
This issue occurs because Internet Explorer determines that the successfully loaded frames are in the Internet domain and the internally generated error frames are on the local computer, and therefore sets the current zone to mixed. This triggers a security error message that alerts you that the page contains secure and non-secure items.
In this case, the error message does not indicate a security problem; the error message merely indicates that the page has not loaded all of the secure content fully.
STATUS
This behavior is by design. You cannot disable this error message.
MORE INFORMATION
This error message is an indication that the Web site contains both secure and
non-secure items. You can download the non-secure
items with the secure items on the Web site, display only the secure
items, or view the corresponding Help topic. The choices in Internet Explorer 3.02 and Internet
Explorer 4.0 and later are slightly different.
For descriptions of these differences, refer to the following sections.
Internet Explorer 4.x or 5
When you receive the error message, you can click Yes, No, or More Info. If you click Yes, the Web page displays both the secure and non-secure items. If you click No, the non-secure items are not displayed on the Web page and the Secure Lock indicator is displayed on the status bar. If you click More Info, the Downloading insecure content from a secure Web site Help topic is displayed.
Internet Explorer 3.02
When you receive the error message, you can click About
Security, Yes, or No. If you click About Security, the Security on the Internet Help topic is displayed. If you click Yes, the Web page displays both the secure and non-secure items. If you click No, the non-secure items are not displayed on the Web page and the Secure Lock indicator is displayed on the status bar.
