XL97: Errors Activating Embedded Object Containing PivotTable (184900)

When you try to double-click or update a Microsoft Excel worksheet object
that is contained in a file that was created in another program, such as
Microsoft Word, you may receive the following error messages:
Unable to obtain PivotTable data from disk.
Memory was used up attempting to convert and save. PivotTables(s) will
be refreshed upon the first update.
Cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to
access a read-only location. Or the server the document is stored on may
not be responding.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The Excel worksheet contains a PivotTable.
-and-
- You have created the Excel worksheet in an earlier version of Excel.
-and-
- You are opening the embedded Excel object in Excel 97.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, obtain Microsoft Word 97 Service Release 2 (SR-
2).

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97 for
Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release
2 (SR-2).
